A Gift For Burning

I made this in 1984 after a sudden and life changing winter discovering poetry and those who write it. The stage setting is a piano, some beautiful chairs, each different in character, some oil lamps and an old writing box of papers.

Part witty and moving spoken text from prose and letters, part songs that are settings of their poems, the show explores the relationship between creativity, survival and death through the work of these extraordinary women poets.

“The show was a piece of poetry in itself” Phoenix
“Inspiring… intimate… enchanting” Western Morning News
“Impressive power and range” Venue

Poetry has always been a big influence on my song writing.
